Diagnostic Services Collaborative Initiatives

Shared Health is committed to improving all aspects of diagnostic service delivery and actively collaborates with partners on key initiatives where diagnostic services play a role in improving patient care. Below are programs and initiatives in which Shared Health has a voice:

Choosing Wisely

Shared Health has partnered with The Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) on a number of Choosing Wisely projects where there is an opportunity, specific to Manitoba, to improve the appropriate use of diagnostic testing in our province. Choosing Wisely Manitoba follows the principles and goals of Choosing Wisely Canada, a national campaign to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures so they can make informed choices that ensure high-quality care. Choosing Wisely Manitoba’s priority initiatives include optimizing the use of Vitamin D testing and Preoperative diagnostic testing.

Best Blood Manitoba

Best Blood Manitoba is an initiative of the Manitoba Provincial Transfusion Practice Advisory Committee to provide accessible and current information on blood for patients and healthcare providers. Shared Health and our Transfusion Medicine team play an important role in this initiative, also working with medical and nursing staff, Blood Conservation Services and Canadian Blood Services to meet Best Blood Manitoba’s vision of a vein-to-vein transfusion practice service that supports rational and safe transfusion practices for all Manitobans.
